About Dr Tiziano Scarabelli

In the fast-paced environment of Polaris Heart and Vascular Clinic in Woodbridge, Virginia, general cardiologist and cardiac oncologist Dr. Tiziano Scarabelli MD concentrates on giving great treatment to his patients. Before arriving to the United States, he acquired his medical degree in Italy and completed two fellowships in clinical pathology and cardiology.
He then relocated to Detroit, Michigan, because he was clearly interested in expanding his knowledge rather than resting on his laurels. He went on to complete an extra residency in internal medicine and was granted a cardiology fellowship in New York.
He accepted posts in Alabama and Virginia, knowing he wanted to focus on cardiology, and he continues to do so now.

He consults with his patients at their leisure, whether through office visits or telemedicine, in keeping with today's multimedia society. He spends time at Polaris Heart and Vascular Clinic putting patients through a battery of tests in order to diagnose heart problems. Through two telemedicine portals, he also conducts acute care appointments for internal medicine.

Work Experience


Dr. Scarabelli is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease.
In 2015-2016, he worked at the University of Alabama Birmingham and took his knowledge to the Birmingham VA Hospital, where he established a cardiac oncology service with a cardiac echocardiography unit. He was the director of Virginia Commonwealth University's cardiac oncology program from 2017 to 2018.
He now treats patients at Polaris Heart and Vascular Clinic, conducts rigorous cardiology research, and serves as Director of the Center for Heart and Vessel Preclinical Studies at St John Hospital and Medical Center in Michigan, which he founded.
History of Higher Education
In 2012, he completed his residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, focusing on internal medicine. Following that, he was awarded a cardiology and cardiac oncology fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, which he completed in 2015.
Dr. Scarabelli's life has revolved around research, and he has contributed to over 183 peer-reviewed papers focusing on translation research since 2009. His research focuses on numerous aspects of myocardial infarction and injury, as well as cellular responses to these events.


Much of the time Dr. Scarabelli doesn't spend with patients is spent working with other famous physicians to undertake studies aimed at enhancing our understanding of heart failure. The following are only a few of his many interests in the domains of cardiology and cardiac oncology:


Certain flavonoids and amino acids have cardioprotective properties.
Cell stress is influenced by genetic variables in both positive and negative ways.
Certain hormones and enzymes have cardioprotective properties.
New treatments to prevent organ rejection after a heart transplant are being developed.
Several factors influence autophagy (self-induced breakdown) in cells, blocking or redirecting it.

Accomplishments/Achievements
In 2015, he developed the Birmingham VA Hospital's cardiac oncology service as well as the cardiac oncology echocardiography section. He was the chief of cardiac cancer services at Virginia Commonwealth University from 2017 to 2018.
Dr. Scarabelli founded the Center for Heart and Vessel Preclinical Studies at St John Hospital and Medical Center in Michigan as a result of his enthusiasm and talent for translational research. He currently serves as Director and has been a key contributor to the hospital's operations since 2003.

Henry Ford Health System Department of Medical Education, Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, named him Outstanding Medical Student Teacher of the Year for 2009-2010.
Scientific Sessions of the American College of Cardiology awarded the Best Clinical Abstract Award in 2013.
Finalist for the 2014 James Willerson Award in Winnipeg, Canada's Second Cardiovascular Forum for Promoting Centers of Excellence and Young Investigators.
